It has already been 26 years that this lady has been a nurse. She remembered that when she was young, her grandparents had Parkinson’s disease. She would take care of them when she was young since they lived with her and her family.

You can see her at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights since this is where she works. As a floating nurse she transfers to many other departments as she is needed. Many hospitals are still running on tight schedules despite the US economy showing signs of slowing down. She noticed that the expectations of patients have increased these days. Since more patients are getting sicker and demands have risen, more things need to be considered in a shorter time span.

With the increase in the aging population and the use of emergency rooms all the time, the patients in the hospitals have double. She also shares that the hospital does not have so much nursing students in training. With all that is going on in the economy, more health care workers will be demanded. If more people invested more time to see what being a nurse entailed, then they would have a better understanding to it. The role of nurses these days has changes but how people see them have not.

Even if there is a growing need for nurses, the number of students and the graduates will not be able to compensate for the demand says the director at a nursing school in Moline. Due to job loss, more and more people are losing their insurance which means the demand for nurses in the emergency rooms have risen as well.

With 2.5 million registered nurses nationwide, nursing is the nation’s largest health care profession. The perception of people is that doctors are more important than nurses.

There have not been a lot of men working as a nurse tough woman these days have more career options to choose from. According to the US department of Health and Human Services there were only 5.9 percent of registered nurses that were men in 2000.

Typically a nurse experiences greater patient loads mandatory overtime and job hazards such as needle stick injuries, violent patients and back injury from moving patients. With many demands, most nurses do not like working in the emergency rooms. Currently, hospitals are always cutting deals with nurses.

In hind sight, more people might want to enter a service oriented career. With nursing one is offered substantial income and good benefits though one needs to like caring for people. What the patients give them in return is something that makes nurses love that they do.
