Having your own business would require you to have your own office space. You can start out by having your office at home. However, as your business grows or if you need a larger space to start your business, you will need to have your own office space to accommodate your business needs. You can either have the option to purchase an office space or you can lease one, depending on your needs and your financial capabilities.

After you get your own office space, either by purchasing or by renting it, you should provide your design for your new workplace. Keep in mind that the designs of your office space should allow you and/or your employees to be efficient and productive during work hours. Here are some ideas to achieve just that:

1. Provide cabinets, shelves and containers for your office

One thing that will hamper productivity in an office is clutter. If office items and supplies are found all around the area, it might become difficult to move around. Not to mention that it’ll be difficult for you to find what you’re looking for. Putting cabinets, shelves and containers in your office can resolve your clutter problem.

By placing each item that you need in designated cabinets, shelves and/or containers, you can easily pinpoint the location of an item that you need. This saves time and energy compared to trying to find the things you need in a clutter.

2. Comfortable furniture and personalized workspace

Working in a workspace that you’re uncomfortable with can be difficult. This adds to the stress that you experience while working. It is important that you’re able to personalize your workspace, as well as allow your employees to personalize their workspace as well. By doing so, you increase the comfortability of being in your workspace. This can help lower the stress level and increase motivation at the same time. You can personalize your work area by putting up some photos, posters, etc. but you should avoid overdecorating.

Aside from having your workspace personalized, you should also make sure that you provide comfortable furniture like an ergonomic chair and desk. A comfortable workspace has been known to increase productivity and efficiency, since you can get more work done while not worrying about an aching back or neck.

3. Foster communication

When you layout your office space, make sure that you choose a design that fosters communication. An individualized cubicle may make it hard for the employees to communicate, making it difficult to collaborate when working. Aside from that, it may be hard for you or for your client to approach a certain employee if you need to.

4. Sufficient lighting

In order to have a productive office space, make sure that the layout of your office allows proper and sufficient lighting for each cubicle, desk, etc. Poor lighting can increase the strain on the eyes, making it harder to work. You should make sure that each area has adequate light by placing lamps, fluorescent bulbs and other lighting sources in the right areas.
